Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, on Wednesday (1 June) announced that its Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg has decided to resign from her position.
Sandberg, who joined Facebook in 2008, will continue to serve as a member of the company's board of directors.
"On May 28, 2022, Sheryl Sandberg informed Meta Platforms of her decision to resign from her position as Chief Operating Officer of the company after a transition period. Following her resignation as Chief Operating Officer, Sandberg will continue to serve as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors," the company said in a security exchange filing on Wednesday.
Following the announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Sandberg resigning as company's COO is "end of an era".
"Sheryl architected our ads business, hired great people, forged our management culture, and taught me how to run a company. She created opportunities for millions of people around the world, and she deserves the credit for so much of what Meta is today," Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
