As Google Chromebooks continue to remain a significant product in the laptop market, HP and Google have decided to team up to further boost the Chromebook category by manufacturing them in India.

This partnership underscores their commitment to the government's "Make in India" initiative, as stated in an HP press release.

The collaboration aims to support India's digital education ecosystem and empower students to enhance their learning. It will provide affordable, secure, and high-quality computing devices to education authorities, schools and institutions.

The Chromebooks will be produced at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where HP has been manufacturing laptops and desktops since August 2020. Production is set to begin on today (2 October 2023), with a focus on meeting the demand for affordable PCs in the education sector.

These Chromebook devices run on ChromeOS and come with built-in accessibility and security features, enhancing their suitability for educational purposes.

Notably, Google has committed to providing regular automatic updates for Chromebook platforms for up to 10 years, exceeding the support typically offered by other operating systems.

Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP India, said, "HP is committed to advancing digital equity, and we have been driving many initiatives to enable digital education across India. Manufacturing Chromebook laptops in India will allow Indian students to get easy access to affordable PCs. By further expanding our manufacturing operations, we continue to support the Make in India initiative of the Government," reported Times Of India.
