Shimla last year and Chennai this year, and we aren’t even talking about cities like Bengaluru and Delhi – you can see signs of severe water problem nearly everywhere you look. About 10 years ago, the water supply and demand stood at 650 BCM (billion cubic metres) and 634 BCM respectively. Fast forward to 2030, and the supply will rise to 744 BCM while the demand will see a 100 per cent increase to around 1,500 BCM. Can you imagine that situation? The demand and supply would be completely out of whack.
