Watch: How Maharashtra Broke The APMC Monopoly To Increase Farmers Income

BySwarajya Videos

Maharashtra recently attempted a bold move in reforming the agriculture sector. The government recently removed fruits and vegetables from APMC-regulated mandis.

While trade unions protested and threatened to strike, the government went ahead with the move. This move now allows farmers to sell their produce to the highest bidder directly. It conforms to PM Modi’s plans when launching the Electronic National Agri Market.

APMC traders went on a state-wide strike, letting farmers test the new, diversified market. The Fadnavis government has also exempted Toll for trucks supplying vegetables to major cities.

This move will increase the farmer’s income, as well as offer lower prices to the end user.

A bold move in increasing farmer’s incomes, we hope to see other states follow Maharashtra in this endeavour.
