Watch: Why Is The RTE Act Flawed?

BySwarajya Videos

Far from helping realise a dream, the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which was implemented seven years ago, is more of a nightmare. While the government is dragging its feet on some of the contentious issues children are paying the price.

The law, which was aimed at improving the quality of education for the poor, has instead worsened the situation. The disputes over no-detention policy, infrastructure requirement for low-cost schools and exclusion of minority-run schools from the RTE are adding to the woes.

It is unfortunate to see that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which has shown a lot of intent by pushing through crucial reforms is developing a cold feet on this issue.

Our May 2017 issue covers the shortcomings of the Right To Education Act. You can read it here.
