External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi to address the ongoing concerns regarding peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

This meeting took place during the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta.

During the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a productive discussion with Director Wang Yi of the Office of the CPC Central Commission for Foreign Affairs.

They focused on resolving the outstanding issues related to peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

EAM Jaishankar tweeted saying, “Just concluded a meeting with Director Wang Yi of the Office of the CPC Central Commission for Foreign Affairs".

In their meeting, Jaishankar and Director Wang Yi engaged in a comprehensive conversation about the pressing matters of peace and tranquillity in the border areas. They recognised the significance of resolving these outstanding issues and worked towards finding effective solutions.

For over three years, India has been engaged in a military standoff with China. Jaishankar considers this to be the most complex challenge he has faced in his extensive diplomatic career.

In June last month, India completed the third anniversary of clash at Galwan valley that killed twenty Indian Army soldiers and reportedly killed dozens of Chinese PLA soldiers.

The Chinese government, however, acknowledges the death of only four soldiers.

India and China are engaged in ongoing discussions to resolve the deadlock caused by Chinese aggression. Despite conducting 18 rounds of military talks and multiple rounds of talks involving defense and foreign ministers, a resolution to the situation remains elusive.

Wang, a former Chinese Foreign Minister, is attending the ASEAN plus meetings in Jakarta due to the illness of the current Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
