Amid the ongoing Israeli air strikes in Gaza strip, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) is “expanding ground operations” in the Gaza Strip, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari announced on Friday (27 October).

The IDF is currently "operating forcefully" on all fronts and will “continue striking Gaza City,” Hagari said. He reiterated previous advisories for civilians to evacuate in order to ensure their safety.

Since the attacks by Hamas that resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people and the taking of hostages in Gaza, there has been an anticipation of a significant ground offensive. However, it remains uncertain if the recent announcement by the IDF about an expanded operation signifies the beginning of that offensive.

Israel Defense Forces announced on Friday that they had conducted a second limited incursion into Gaza overnight.

The Israeli military conducted a raid in the Shejaiya neighborhood of eastern Gaza City, involving infantry, combat engineering, and armored forces. Air cover was provided by Israeli Air Force drones and combat helicopters.

The IDF also conducted artillery strikes and airstrikes targeting Hamas, specifically hitting anti-tank guided missile launch sites and command centers associated with the terror group.

According to the IDF, a number of Hamas members were also targeted by the forces. After a few hours, the troops withdrew from the area, and there were no reports of injuries among the Israelis.

In an airstrike conducted in the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced that it successfully eliminated Madhat Mubasher, the commander of Hamas's West Khan Younis Battalion.
