US Navy Aircraft Carrier 'USS Dwight D Eisenhower' Hit By Drones and Missiles, Claims Iran-Backed Houthi Militia

Yemeni Houthi rebels have claimed that they carried out six attacks on international maritime shipping, including a strike on the US aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower on Saturday (3 June).

According to reports, this is the second attack claimed by the Houthis on the Eisenhower in the last two days.

The Houthis also claimed a strike on another US Navy destroyer.

Their spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that "the Eisenhower was hit with a number of drones, and the hit was direct." Another direct hit was claimed on a different American destroyer.

The attacks occurred in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and targeted ships that the Houthi spokesperson claimed violated the ban of passage to ports of Israel. The merchant ships identified are the Maina, which was hit twice, the Aloraiq, and the Abliani.

The US Central Command indicated that some of the Houthi drones and munitions coming from Yemeni territory were destroyed. Two ballistic missiles coming towards the US Navy destroyer USS Gravely were also shot down.

This comes after the US and UK conducted a missile strike against various Houthi targets, destroying a dozen Houthi positions.

The Iranian-aligned Yemeni Houthis are launching drone and missile strikes against various shipping vessels, forcing international maritime traffic to divert from the Red Sea and Suez Canal route to go around the Cape of Good Hope across the entire continent of Africa.

This has strained the already stretched sea lines of communication due to the Russia-Ukraine war, causing inflation in basic food items.
