Announcement: The Dalai Lama To Present This Year’s Swarajya-Indic Academy Awards

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will confer the 2nd Swarajya-Indic Academy Awards at a special ceremony during the India Ideas Conclave in Goa on 5 November 2016.

Swarajya, in collaboration with India Foundation and Indic Academy, instituted the ‘Swarajya Awards’ to recognise individuals and institutions doing stellar work in various walks of life, while being largely committed to advancing values like open market, freedom of enterprise, national interest, innovation, entrepreneurship and richness of India’s vast cultural heritage.

These four Awards are presented in the fields Economics, Politics, Society and Cultural spheres. The are named as: the Dr B.R. Shenoy Award for Economics; the Dr S.P. Mukherjee Award for Politics; Ustad Bismillah Khan Award for Culture; and the Sree Narayana Guru Award for Social Work.

Each award carries a citation, a specially-designed trophy and a cash prize of one lakh rupees.

Names of the winners will be announced during the India Ideas Conclave.

Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya, Tamil writer Joe D' Cruz and Kashmiri leader Sajjad Lone were among the winners of the inaugural awards.
