When the union government announced that a new greenfield university by the corporate giant Reliance group would be qualified for the "Institution Of Excellence" tag, all hell broke lose.

Everyone and his Twitter friend had a field day. WhatsApp forwards about how the Modi government is favouring the Ambanis who control Reliance went berserk. Almost all of the adverse reaction was based on factually incorrect suspicions (Reliance won't get Rs 1,000 crore from the government for the university)

Perhaps Swarajya was the only digital + print media platform that offered a meaningful critique of the government policy that led to the Institution of Excellence fracas.

We've gone beyond outrage and silly potshots and looked at the issue from the vantage of first principles: why not give more freedom, absolute freedom, which is what the IoE tag is all about, to everyone?

You can read Arihant Pawariya's take on whole issue here.

You will notice that we are among the handful of media outlets in this country who have

  1. batted against bad laws in the education sector
  2. spoken out for Dalit reservations in minority enclaves
  3. criticised sectarian funding in education
  4. spoken out against syllabus dilution
  5. and more!

The above is only a snapshot of our in-depth coverage of India's education mess. If you like what we do please consider buying a subscription - your subscription is what keeps us going.
