National President of Lok Janshakti Party and Jamui Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan broke his silence on his decision to break away from NDA at the state level ahead of the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections after PM Narendra Modi raised this topic in a poll campaign.
Paswan shared a video clip of PM Modi from the Telangana election campaign, where the latter said, "I remember that Bihar CM, who is the pioneer of casteist politics these days, repeatedly insulted my close friend and Dalit leader Ramvilas Paswan."
"They were even not keen on showing support to Ramvilas Paswan's Rajya Sabha candidature. I have always felt this pain in Ramvilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan," the PM further added.
Responding to this, Chirag Paswan wrote on X, "I wanted to keep that personal pain within myself, but when the respected Prime Minister mentioned this from the stage, I feel that I am now in a position to answer that question of people."
He shared that there were two reasons for contesting separately from NDA, "Firstly, I believed even that time that development of Bihar was not possible under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji and secondly, no son could tolerate the way Nitish Kumar ji had insulted my father."
Thanking the PM for making the matter public, he further wrote, "We remember how the Chief Minister had behaved feudally with us during the Rajya Sabha elections. What can be greater for a son than respect of his father?"
Stating his resolve to contest the elections alone because he rejected the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Paswan said, "Those who broke my party, knowing everything, accused me of selfishness and claimed that they broke the party because they wanted to contest elections with Nitish ji and I did not allow this to happen."
"I was deeply hurt by their behavior at that time. I was sad because they knew very well how Nitish Kumar had behaved with my father during the Rajya Sabha elections. I was not able to understand that how could they accept contesting elections with that person who insulted the one they called God?", he added.
"At that time, I did not have any evidence to reveal this reality and convey my point to the people, but time is powerful, perhaps. They might have got the answer after this statement from the PM. I am proud that I did not compromise with my father's honor for the greed of any ministerial post," Paswan concluded.
