21,715 Km Natural Gas Pipelines Operational, 13,605 Km Length Under Various Stages Of Construction: Govt

Over 33,000 km natural gas pipeline network has been authorised acroos the country, the government informed the Parliament on Thursday (21 July).

Further, the Parliament was told that out of the total authorised natural gas pipeline network, over 21,700 km has been made operational while another 13,605 km is under various stages of construction.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar informed that with the aim to increase the share of natural gas in the primary energy mix, there is focus on developing the natural gas infrastructure in the country.

"Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is the body to authorise the development of pipelines and 33,500 km Natural Gas Pipeline network has been authorized across the country," the minister said.

"Out of this, 21,715 km Natural Gas Pipelines are operational and a total of 13,605 km length of pipelines is under various stages of construction," he added.

The minister further said that the expansion of pipeline infrastructure is a continuous effort based on gas demand assessment of various regions.

The projects are being undertaken as per the timelines approved by PNGRB, he informed.
