"A total of 32 companies (22 MSMEs, 5 Non-MSME Domestic and 5 Global) have submitted applications. 17 of these 32 companies have applied as Design-led manufacturers and remaining as Production linked manufacturers," the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said in a release on Friday.
"It is heartening that 18 new companies have submitted applications. India is poised to emerge as design and manufacturing hub for telecom and networking equipment," DoT said.
DoT had launched the PLI scheme in telecom sector in February 2021 with an outlay of Rs 12,195 crore spread over five years.
A total of 31 companies, comprising 16 MSMEs and 15 non-MSMEs including eight domestic and seven global companies were given approval for the scheme in October last year.
The scheme was amended in April this year to facilitate design-led manufacturing with an additional incentive rate of 1 per cent over and above existing incentive rates and a quantum of Rs 4,000 crore from the Rs 12,195 crore was set aside for it
The application window for the Design-led PLI scheme was open from 21 June till 25 August 2022.
