Exide Energy To Double Lithium Cell Production Capacity In Karnataka, Seeks Additional 40 Acre Of Land From State Govt

Exide Energy, a company currently setting up a lithium battery cell plant near Bengaluru, has made the decision to double its production capacity.

In order to achieve this, they have requested an additional 40 acres of land from the Karnataka government.

On 21 August, the leadership team of Exide Energy, led by Managing Director and CEO Mandar V Deo, met with Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil to submit their proposal.

The company is in the process of setting up a plant with a production capacity of 6,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in the Devanahalli Industrial Area.

According to Minister Patil, the plant is expected to commence operations in 2024.

“In addition to this, Exide Energy desires to add another 6,000 gigawatt-hours of production capacity. The total investment for the two plants would be Rs 6,000 crore,” the minister added, reports The Hindu.

The government of Karnataka is actively focused on the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) sector within the state. Minister Patil expressed the government's keen interest in supporting and expanding the EV industry in Karnataka.

Patil said the government, which aims to facilitate the growth of the EV sector in the state, will make a decision after reviewing the proposal.
