Government E-Marketplace Achieves Order Value Of Rs 1 Lakh Crore In FY22

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has clocked over Rs 1 lakh crore in order value in a single year in the financial year 2021-22.

"Today, GeM has clocked order value of Rs 1 Lakh crore in a single year in FY 2021-22," Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet.

He also congratulated all stakeholders in the GeM, especially the sellers in MSME sector, women entrepreneurs, startups, weavers and artisans in continuing to contribute to the vision of an "AtmaNirbhar Bharat".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also appreciated Government e Marketplace (GeM) for achieving annual procurement of Rs 1 lakh crore in Financial Year 2021-22.

He also said that GeM platform is especially empowering MSMEs, with 57 per cent of order value coming from MSME sector.

The GeM, launched in August 2016, is a one stop portal to facilitate online procurement of common use Goods & Services required by various government ministries and departments, Public Sector Undertakings and other apex autonomous bodies of the Central Government.

GeM is hosted by the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement. It provides the tools of e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to facilitate the government users achieve the best value for their money.

The purchases through GeM by government users have been authorized and made mandatory by Ministry of Finance.
