India has decided to impose anti-dumping duties on three Chinese products — wheel loaders, gypsum tiles and industrial laser machinery — for five years in an attempt to shield local manufacturers from cheap imports, according to a report from The Indian Express.

Following recommendations from the Commerce Ministry’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), anti-dumping duties have been imposed on certain products.

The DGTR investigations determined that the domestic industry suffered substantial injury due to the dumping of these items.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued notifications last month announcing these duties on products such as gypsum board/tiles with lamination, industrial laser machines, and wheel loaders.

The duties, intended to address unfair trade practices, will be applicable for five years unless revised or revoked.

India's trade deficit with China for 2022-23 was $83.2 billion, with exports at $15.3 billion and imports at $98.5 billion.
