Arrival Of Performers Beyond Stars In Hindi Cinema

#1 Pankaj Tripathi: While he had many appearances in movies like Agneepath, Aakrosh, his portrayal of Sultan Qureshi as a butcher in Anurag Kashyap’s acclaimed movie Gangs of Waseypur caught everyone’s attention. In a film boasting of Manoj Vajpayee, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tripathi gave a performance that cements his reputation as an endearing actor, watch that scene where he tells the police inspector ‘Ye Waseypur hai yahan kabutar bhi ek pankh se udta hai or doosre se ijjat bachata hai’. Also, he made his presence felt in the recent movie Masaan, especially the ‘Kheer’ sequence at the Railway station itself speaks about the actor.

‘Hum pitaji ke sath rahte hain, pitaji akele rahte hain’.

#2 Deepak Dobariyal: From that stoic silent Captain Javed Khan in Shaurya to funny, lively Pappi ji in Tanu Weds Manu/Returns, this is Deepak Dobariyal for you. Pappi ji is a very finely written character which very well compliments the story of Tanu and Manu. With some of the wittiest dialogues, Deepak Dobariyal makes his screen presence mesmerising in the movie. There is not a single scene in the movie where you don’t feel his presence. For instance, the scene in which Madhavan and Dobariyal are travelling in the bus and chasing Kangana, Dobaraiyal’s expressions and dialogue delivery are worth watching. The scene where he plays Dr Radhe Shyam Agrawal, with the dialogue, ’Your question hurt me’ was ‘hasil-e-mehfil’.

#3 Sanjay Mishra: Although Sanjay Mishra has given some fine performances in his long career, it is his performances in movies like Ankhon Dekhi, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and recently Masaan that introduce that serious actor in him. Masaan as a film is special and Mishra touches the audience with his sincere performance in the way he conveys the pain of helpless father. His gestures, body language in the meetings with Police Inspector are just perfect.

But the scene in which he gives lunch to his daughter before she is readying herself for Allahabad, he is so natural especially when seen in the context of the film.

#4 Rajesh Sharma in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana: This is probably the best example of how an actor can bring colours to even a small role. The film itself is funny and Sharma is brilliant in the role of Titu Mama. The scene in which he wakes up on the roof and says ‘Bas karo Sain ji’ is genuinely funny apart from many others in the film. He has had several other brilliant performances in No one killed Jessica, Tanu Weds Manu Returns. By the way, how many of us noticed him later in the role of Munjal in the movie Khosla ka Ghosla.

#5 Vipin Sharma in Taare Zameen Par: Although Sharma has had many appearances since TZP in movies like Gangs of Waseypur, Saheb Bibi Gangster but his first in Taare Zameen Par was special. The ease with which he portrays the traits of a quintessential middle class father is exemplary. His performance in the scene in which Amir Khan visits his home where he displays the frustration/confusion of a middle class father is pitch perfect. Another scene from a different movie Gangs of Waseypur, between Ramadhir Singh and Sharma, where Ramadhir asks him to bring the remains of Sardar Khan, Sharma is fabulous.
