BBC News Punjabi's Twitter account has been blocked in India amid the Punjab police's crackdown on radical Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh.

It is, however, uncertain whether the account had been withheld on demand of Central agencies or Punjab Police.

When anyone tries to access the BBC News Punjabi's Twitter account from India, a message appears, saying "account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand".

Further, multiple journalists' official Twitter handles were also withheld in the country.

Earlier, at least six pro-Khalistan YouTube channels were blocked on Central government's request.

The channels were operated from overseas, presented content in Punjabi, and aimed to stir up trouble in the border state, according to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

The move to block BBC News Punjabi's Twitter account comes amid a massive operation launched by the Punjab police to nab fugitive radical Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh.

While Amritpal Singh remains untraceable, several members of his 'Waris Punjab De' outfit have been arrested in the crackdown by the Punjab police.
