Russia has delivered additional systems of the S-400 to India. The units have landed in India only recently and more of them are on their way according to the contract schedule.

So far, the first squadron of the S-400 has been inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and in total five other regiments are in order.

Moscow had earlier assured of timely deliveries of the ongoing contracts.

The system is adept at taking down targets from a distance of 400 km. It can thus cover most of the Chinese airbases in Tibet, which are the ones directed towards Eastern Ladakh, The Economic Times (ET) reports.

The S-400 system is slated to add a layer of solid air defence for New Delhi. Signed in 2018, the $5.43 billion deal is reported to be the biggest one signed between India and Russia in the last couple of decades.

The deliveries of the same were scheduled from 2021 and Moscow has repeatedly stated that it would adhere to the timeline regardless of the Covid-19 pandemic or the financial sanctions imposed on it by the west.
