Apple's Bet On India Gets Bigger: Company Reaching Out To Indian Manufacturers For Multiple Products As It Shifts Supply Chain Away From China

Cupertino-based Apple, renowned for its iPhone and iPad products, is actively engaging with potential suppliers in the automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics sectors to explore diverse supplier arrangements, according to a report from Livemint.

The tech giant aims to significantly bolster its production and sourcing endeavors in India, initiating preliminary discussions with suppliers capable of custom-designing and manufacturing parts and machinery for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Some suppliers are reportedly making investments in new capabilities, machinery, and equipment, positioning themselves as potential contributors to Apple's supply chain pending certification and approvals.

This move aligns with Apple's broader strategy to diversify its operations and mitigate risks associated with a concentrated supply chain in China.

Notably, Apple's contract manufacturers Foxconn and Tata Electronics have already taken substantial steps to augment production capacity in India, with Tata Electronics recently acquiring Wistron's iPhone assembly plant near Bengaluru.

According to insiders, Apple is actively seeking high-quality suppliers with diverse portfolios and parts, emphasising the importance of finding an ecosystem that meets stringent criteria in terms of quality, pricing, and capabilities before making final decisions.
