The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, including its major cities like Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, is experiencing a severe power outage since this  morning.

According to the neighboring country’s power ministry, this major outage was caused as the system frequency of the National Grid went down at 7:34 AM.

It said that system maintenance work is progressing rapidly.

“The restoration of grid stations has been started from Warsak and in the last one hour a limited number of grids of Islamabad Supply Company and Peshawar Supply Company have been restored,” the ministry tweeted.

This country wide power outage hit Pakistan just a few days after the Islamic republic announced a new energy conservation plan amid its increasing economic woes.

Pakistan experienced a similar power breakdown in October 2022 with cities like Karachi and Lahore going without electricity for more than 12 hours.

A majority of Pakistan’s population today is reeling under miserable living conditions and uncontrolled inflation with the country burdened with muted manufacturing, stagnant exports, depleting forex reserves and high external debt servicing.

Even food shortages have now become common, with video clips of citizens chasing trucks and rioting for grains now surfacing on social media.
