  • Karnataka has okayed the proposal to extend Bengaluru metro till Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
  • Soon Bengaluru metro may become an inter-state public transportation system with an extension planned till Hosur in Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka state government has approved the proposal to extend the RV Road - Bommasandra line taken up under Namma Metro Phase 2 line until Hosur city.

If implemented, this metro line connecting Bommasandra with Hosur will be 20.5 km long, with 11.7 km falling in Karnataka and 8.8 km in Tamil Nadu.

Krishnagiri MP Dr A Chellakumar informed reporters that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMCRL) had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ( MoHUA) in this regard in May.

The MP said that the Karnataka government approved the proposal and stated that Tamil Nadu could conduct a study for the metro line between Bommasandra to Hosur, reports The New Indian Express.

"This is the dream project for thousands of people in Hosur, who regularly commute to work in Bengaluru. If the project is implemented, it will benefit people of both States socially and economically," Dr A Chellakumar said.

Hosur Road has also become attractive with this planned metro line in this stretch which would help improve connectivity to the Central Business District (CBD).

Better infrastructure has revitalised residential areas in South Bengaluru and increased interest, while the proximity to the airport has helped some places in the northern part of Bengaluru gain prominence.
