Aircraft-maker Airbus is set to unveil their collaboration with Indamer Aviation focused on helicopter maintenance, in the coming week.
This collaboration designates Indamer, which is equipped with an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Nagpur’s MIHAN-SEZ, as the preferred service provider for helicopters manufactured by the European multinational aircraft company.
In addition to producing fixed-wing airplanes, Airbus is also involved in the manufacturing of helicopters.
The formal announcement of this collaboration is slated for 8 December in Nagpur, with the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as reported by Times of India.
MRO, refers to the activities involved in maintaining, repairing, and overhauling aircraft, aircraft components, and systems to ensure their airworthiness and safe operations. It is an essential part of the aviation industry.
Indamer, which also has an MRO at Juhu in Mumbai, is into the maintenance of helicopters on a large scale. The company carries out the work at its service centres in Pune and Bengaluru as well, as per the report.
Presently, the Nagpur MRO exclusively tends to Airbus 320 fixed-wing aircraft.
This tie-up will expand the facility's operations to include helicopter maintenance at the MIHAN-SEZ in Nagpur, per a source familiar with the collaboration.
The MIHAN MRO possesses substantial capacity for helicopter maintenance. The company currently attends to approximately 60 fixed-wing aircraft annually.
Indamer's focus will now include catering to helicopter operators with Airbus fleets, some of which belong to domestic companies.
The Multi Modal international Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) is the flagship project of Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC).
The development of the MIHAN special economic zone (SEZ) has driven the whole region around Nagpur to witness a boost in economic activity and also attracted qualified and skilled talent form Maharashtra, the rest of India as well as abroad.
Indamer is the second company to establish an MRO in MIHAN-SEZ. The first was built by US aviation giant Boeing which was later handed over to Air India for operations.
