Andhra Pradesh And Telangana Plan Eight-Lane, High-Speed Corridor Linking Both States

In a significant move to enhance connectivity and economic collaboration, the state governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have jointly decided to request the central government to expand the national highway connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada into an eight-lane high-speed corridor.

This initiative aims to facilitate faster movement of people and goods between the two states.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is currently working on six-laning the busy highway, with projects at various stages of progress.

The expansion issue was discussed during a face-to-face meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The two chief ministers agreed to implement confidence-building measures to strengthen relations and promote mutual interests.

In light of this, Reddy suggested that both governments request the Centre to expand the ongoing highway widening project to an eight-lane greenfield highway, extending up to Machilipatnam, reports The New Indian Express.

He highlighted that this extension would significantly benefit the movement of goods from the proposed dry port in Telangana.

Chief Minister Naidu supported the proposal, noting that high-speed connectivity between the capitals of the two states was a provision in the A.P. Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Consequently, both state governments plan to approach the central government soon to seek its cooperation in this crucial infrastructure project.
