Bengaluru Metro: BMRCL Submits DPR For Rs 28,405 Crore Hebbal-Sarjapur Corridor

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has submitted the detailed project report (DPR) for the long-awaited 37-km Hebbal-Sarjapur corridor to the Karnataka government for approval.

Once the state government grants its approval, it will be forwarded to the Union government for final consent.

This corridor is a critical link, connecting the tech hub of Sarjapur with Hebbal, traversing through Bengaluru's central business district and Koramangala.

The Phase 3A project, which is expected to cost approximately Rs 28,405 crore, including land acquisition expenses, would feature 28 stations — 17 elevated and 11 underground.

“The proposed metro line will cover several areas in the Central Business District. Approximately 16.80 km of the route, from Koramangala to Hebbal, will be underground. It will pass through key locations, such as Bellandur, Agara, St John’s Hospital, NIMHANS, Central College, Cunningham Road, and Mehkri Circle,” an official said, reports The Hindu.

The proposed stations along the corridor include Sarjapur, Kada Agrahara Road, Sompura, Dommasandra, Muthanallur Cross, Kodathi Gate, Ambedkar Nagar, Carmelaram, Doddakannelli, Kaikondrahalli, Bellandur Gate, Ibbalur, Agara, Jakkasandra, Koramangala 3rd Block, Koramangala 2nd Block, Dairy Circle, NIMHANS, Shanti Nagar, Town Hall, KR Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Bengaluru Golf Course, Palace Guttahalli, Mehkri Circle, Veterinary College, Ganga Nagar, and Hebbal. The depot will be located at Sarjapur.

The project includes interchanges at Ibbalur (Central Silk Board-KR Puram Line), Dairy Circle (Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara Line), KR Circle near Sir M Visvesvaraya station (Purple Line), and Hebbal (KR Puram-Kempegowda International Airport and Kempapura-JP Nagar Lines).

According to a senior official at the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), more than 35 per cent of the project cost will be financed through external borrowings. The remaining funds will be provided by the state and Union governments via equity contributions, land acquisition costs, and GST reimbursement. The state government will bear the estimated Rs 5,000 crore expense for land acquisition.

At a cost of Rs 776 crore per kilometre, the Hebbal-Sarjapur line will be the most expensive in Namma Metro’s history.
