More than 10 lakh participants took part in the grand ceremony for laying of foundation stones for redevelopment of 508 stations across the country by Prime Minister on Sunday (6 August).
Dignitaries including 302 MPs, 484 MLAS, 19 governors and LGs and 11 chief ministers and 16 Union ministers were also among those who participated in the event.
There were 9,000 railway engineers who were specifically being trained to carry out the redevelopment work at all these stations, said Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Our aim is to make these redeveloped stations as city centres and multi-modal transportation hub, Vaishnaw added.
There were 6,500 sportspersons, 81,161 students, 2,631 teachers and 852 principals who witnessed the gala ceremony at various stations all over the country.
The foundations for redevelopment of 508 stations, an event considered to be a biggest ever in Indian Railways so far, also saw display of 7,045 hoardings, banners and welcome gates across all railway zones.
There were also 41 Padma awardees and 21 freedom fighters who participated in the grand event involving laying of foundation stones for redevelopment of stations.
