Etching a new chapter in the aviation landscape of Uttarakhand, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated on Thursday the new terminal building (NTB) Phase -II of Dehradun Airport.

The NTB has undergone development in two phases, at an estimated cost of Rs 486 Crore, under the supervision of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Following the operationalisation of the initial phase covering 28,729 square metres, the old terminal building was dismantled.

In the subsequent phase, the terminal's footprint expanded to encompass an additional 14,047 square metres, culminating in a total terminal area of 42,776 square metres.

With these enhancements, the airport is now equipped to accommodate 3,240 passengers during peak hours and has an annual serving capacity of 47 lakh passengers. The new terminal has also introduced a host of convenient amenities for travellers, significantly expediting departures and arrivals.

This newly constructed terminal building is a testament to a wonderful artistic creation and reflects the harmonious blend of culture, heritage and modern architecture of Uttarakhand.

Drawing inspiration from the graceful 'Brahmakamal', the state flower, the terminal's columns boast a distinctive allure.

These columns, akin to blooming flowers, open up to skylights, allowing the terminal to bask in natural light. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this design choice champions sustainability by reducing reliance on artificial lighting.

Moreover, the choice of pristine white for the columns evokes a sense of tranquility, further enriching the serene ambiance.

The construction of the new terminal at Dehradun Airport not only promises enhanced air connectivity to the Garhwal region but also positions Uttarakhand as a more accessible destination for both domestic and international travellers.
