Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have decided to explore the feasibility of constructing a 1.2 km double-decker flyover cum metro viaduct at Madinaguda (Gangaram).

This decision comes in light of the narrow stretch and the presence of multiple underground and overhead utilities, as well as a religious place, on both sides of the road.

NHAI has been planning to construct a flyover on the same stretch, and now HAML will prepare and submit a cross-sectional drawing of the double-decker arrangement for necessary approvals. This drawing will feature the highway at the lower level and the metro viaduct on top.

Before the meeting, officials inspected the Miyapur-Patancheru and LB Nagar-Hayatnagar metro phase-II corridors, as well as the Mailardevpally-Aramghar-New High Court spur line, which is situated on the NH. The inspections aimed to find solutions to the engineering challenges posed by these projects.

For the Miyapur-Patancheru metro corridor, which spans approximately 13 km, the viaduct is proposed to be built primarily in the central median of the NH, except at BHEL. At the BHEL Junction, the metro alignment will shift to the left to integrate the proposed BHEL metro station with the TGSRTC bus stop, as per The Hindu report.

The seven km LB Nagar-Hayatnagar metro phase-II corridor will extend from the existing metro viaduct at LB Nagar junction between two existing flyovers of the GHMC. The alignment will continue in the central median up to the proposed Chintalkunta metro station.

In the Mailardevpally and New High Court spur line, which is over five km long, the metro alignment will initially be on the left side of the PVNR Expressway at Aramghar. It will then shift to the right side (Agriculture University side) at a suitable location between the PVNR Expressway and the Agriculture University flyover.
