According to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the two extension projects for Line-1 (Pink Line) of the Jaipur Metro will shortly get underway.
The Line-1 metro runs from Mansarovar to Badi Chopar over a length of 11.4 km.
The new phase will extend Jaipur's operational pink line eastward to Transport Nagar by 2.85 km, with 2.26 km underground through the old city and one station at Ramganj Chaupar and 0.59 km elevated with one station at Transport Nagar.
About 1.3 km on the Mansarovar side until Ajmer Road will also be extended.
After the extension, line-1 would increase in length to 15.65 km.
"I know that Line-1 of the Jaipur Metro needs to be extended. The extension work will begin soon," said Ashok Gehlot during a Rajasthan Housing Board program, reports Economic Times.
The Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project proposes a new 23.51 km metro rail line (Orange Line) with 21 stations connecting Ambabari – India Gate (Sitapura Industrial Area).
"I understand the importance of the second metro line from Sitapura. We would certainly build that metro line as well "Gehlot added.
The Chief Minister also stated that he wants Metro services to be extended to the city's outskirts.
The Jaipur Metro is the first metro in India to run on a double-storey elevated road and metro track.
