The much-anticipated Navi Mumbai Metro Line - 1 will soon begin operations as trial on the 5.96 km stretch between Central Park and Belapur stations has been successfully completed on Friday (30 December).
"A trial run was held earlier between Central Park and Pendhar and now we have completed the trial from Central Park to Belapur. Very soon, operations of metro line number one will commence," said Sanjay Mukherjee, chairman-managing director of CIDCO.
The project in the satellite township of Navi Mumbai is being executed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).
The 11 km long Navi Mumbai Metro Line - 1 stretches from Belapur to Pendhar and consists of 11 stations, a depot for maintenance at Taloja and two traction substations at Panchanand and Kharghar.
CIDCO plans to extend this 11 km stretch till the under construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in four phases i.e. phase-1: Belapur to Pendhar, phase-2: MIDC to Khandeshwar, phase-3: Interlink between Pendhar and MIDC and phase-4: Khandeshwar to NMIA.
Including all four phases, Navi Mumbai metro line would extend to 26 km with 21 stations.
