Major Metro Expansion In Gurugram: Two New Corridors Approved, Enhancing Rapid Transit Across Key Areas

Expanding the vision of the metro network in Gurugram, the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved two new metro routes in the city, reports Hindustan Times.

These routes are in addition to the 28.5-kilometre Gurugram Metro project, which connects Millennium City Centre to the Cyber City corridor and was approved last year to meet the city's urgent need for metro connectivity.

The expansion will significantly enhance the metro rail network, extending it to densely populated areas and connecting them with major business districts.

The first proposed new route, spanning 17 km — will link Bhondsi village to Gurugram Railway Station — passing through Vatika Chowk, Subash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and Gurugram Bus Stand.

This route will mainly follow Sohna Road and connect with the proposed Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar RRTS line at Rajiv Chowk, as well as the previously approved metro extension from Millennium City Centre Metro Station to the Gurugram Railway Station, as per reports.

The second route — 13 kilometres in length — will run from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector-5, with stops at Millennium City Centre Metro Station, Signature Tower crossing, Rana Pratap Chowk, and Atul Kataria Chowk. This route will follow the Sheetla Mata Road.

These routes were approved during HMRTC's 57th board meeting in Chandigarh, chaired by Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad.

Officials stated that consultants will soon be hired to prepare detailed project reports for the two routes.
