Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, has commissioned another vehicle assembly line at its Manesar facility today (9 April).

The new assembly line can produce 100,000 units annually, boosting the plant's total capacity to 900,000 vehicles per annum. This assembly line has been added to the existing Plant-A of the three manufacturing plants at Manesar.

The Maruti Suzuki Manesar facility, which commenced operations with Plant A in February 2007, expanded with the addition of Plant B in 2011 and Plant C in 2013 to meet rising customer demand.

Cumulatively, the Manesar facility has contributed over 95 lakh units in Maruti Suzuki’s 3 crore production milestone. Among the popular models manufactured at this facility are Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz, and Celerio.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) of Japan, with SMC holding a 58.19 per cent equity stake.

The company which is the largest exporter of passenger vehicles in India is looking to add another 20 lakh units in production capacity by 2030-31 with about 28 different models in the market.

Currently, the auto major has a cumulative production capacity of around 22.5 lakh units per annum across its manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat.

The two manufacturing facilities in Haryana — Gurgugram and Manesar — together roll out around 15 lakh units per annum. Further, the Gujarat facility of Maruti Suzuki in Hansalpur has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units.

Besides, MSIL is already in the process of setting up a new manufacturing plant at IMT Kharkhoda in Sonipat, Haryana with an investment of Rs 11,000 crore in the first phase. The plant with an initial manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles per annum is expected to be commissioned within the year 2025.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new assembly line, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We aim to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years and this capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a step towards this goal. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units per annum.”
