The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has submitted the detailed project report to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) — for the proposed metro corridor between New Delhi railway station and Greater Noida Knowledge Park-2.
According to officials familiar with the project, the detailed project report (DPR) has proposed around seven stations along this part of the metro corridor.
This proposed corridor is part of the longer metro network aimed to connect the two international airports in the National Capital Region (NCR) — the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar and the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi.
The DPR had also been submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government for its review and final approval.
Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, stated, “The DPR for Knowledge Park-2 to New Delhi section has been submitted 5-6 days back. We have also sent this DPR to the state government for approval. The DPR has suggested seven metro stations between Knowledge Park-2 and New Delhi. We will wait for the government’s approval and directions for further advancement on the project,” reports Money Control.
Officials added the final decision on the number of stations and the funding pattern will be taken by the government only.
The DMRC had started the work on preparing the DPR for development of this metro link in February 2023.
However, in April, YEIDA officials stated that the process is facing delays as DMRC has sought additional time to complete the survey work and the DPR is now expected to be ready by June 2023.
Linking The Two Airports
The DMRC and YEIDA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in December 2022, for the preparation of the full project report for the development of the metro rail link.
The 72-km planned metro connectivity will consist of two phases — the first phase being a 36.36 km link between New Delhi Station and Greater Noida's Knowledge Park-2, and the second phase being a 35.64 km link between Knowledge Park-2 and Jewar.
According to officials, the link between Knowledge Park-2 and Jewar has already received approval of its DPR from the Yamuna authority in August 2022, and is now awaiting approval from the Uttar Pradesh government.
Upon completion of the two phases, this metro line will have an estimated total of 13 stations between the Jewar Airport and New Delhi Railway Station.
From New Delhi railway station, there is already a connecting link to the Airport Express for IGI airport in Delhi.
This proposed rail connection can be seen as part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s plan to provide last-mile metro connectivity to the Noida International Airport.
