Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Construction Work On Eighth River Bridge Completed

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, popularly called the bullet train, has seen the completion of another river bridge.

Stretching 120 metres between Bharuch and Vadodara bullet train stations, the bridge atop the Dhadhar River is the eighth bridge to be completed.

The bridge consists of three full-span girders of 40 metres each. The piers are 16 metres to 20 metres high, and the circular piers are four to five meters in diameter. While the girders provide horizontal support, the piers act as vertical pillars, offering foundational stability.

Out of the 24 river bridges planned for the bullet train corridor, 20 are being constructed in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra. The first river bridge, 320 metres long, was completed in January 2023 over the Par River between Vapi and Bilimora stations in Valsad district of Gujarat.

Additionally, six other river bridges have been completed: Purna (360 metres, Navsari district), Mindhola (240 metres, Navsari district), Ambika (200 metres, Navsari district), Auranga (320 metres, Valsad district), Venganiya (200 metres, Navsari district), and Mohar River (160 metres, Kheda district).

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, spanning 508 kilometres with 12 stations, 24 river bridges, eight mountain tunnels, and one undersea tunnel is being hailed as an infrastructural marvel. It is being implemented by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

The NHSRCL aims to complete the bullet train project by 2028, with the train expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to three hours.
