Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally introduced the Paytm Payments Bank Wallet and Transit Card for the NaMo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) stations.
The RRTS network would offer world-class commuter transit services which would be safe and reduce commuter journey times in the region with high speed (160 km) and high frequency (5 to 10 minutes) operations.
This groundbreaking step empowers countless commuters in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) by offering them a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which serves as an all-encompassing solution for their everyday payment requirements.
Paytm Payments Bank Limited, a homegrown financial institution, has entered into an exclusive partnership with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to serve as the official issuer of the National Common Mobility Card.
The card was unveiled by Prime Minister Modi at the Sahibabad station in Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the government's vision of a unified payment system that covers daily transactions, including travel, in-store purchases, and online shopping.
This significant collaboration allows customers to acquire the Paytm Payments Bank Wallet and Transit Card at any NaMo Bharat RRTS station operated by NCRTC.
Furthermore, the card is equipped with NCMC technology, making it universally accepted by a wide range of merchants and service providers throughout the country.
One of the standout features of this card is the fully digital application process developed by Paytm Payments Bank Limited. This simplicity ensures that users can effortlessly manage their daily expenses, whether for their commute or other financial transactions.
Speaking about this partnership, Surinder Chawla, MD and CEO of Paytm Payments Bank Limited, remarked, "With the Paytm Payments Bank Wallet and Transit Card, we are addressing urban mobility challenges for millions of customers across the nation.
We are delighted to collaborate with NCRTC as the exclusive issuer of the Paytm Payments Bank Wallet and Transit Card at all NaMo Bharat RRTS stations. The card will empower commuters in the NCR with the convenience of a single card that covers all their daily payment needs, including various multi-mode transport operators, online shopping platforms, and more."
The Paytm Payments Bank Wallet and Transit Card represents the bank's second product in the mass transit category, following the successful adoption of FASTags, which have gained widespread usage nationwide.
As one of the leading banks participating in the National Electronic Toll Collection programme, Paytm Payments Bank has issued over 1.75 crore FASTags across India.
Additionally, the bank has enabled more than 300 toll and parking facilities on national and state highways to collect toll and parking fees digitally, thereby establishing an interoperable nationwide payment solution, reports the Economic Times.
This innovative initiative further aligns with the Indian government's Digital India campaign, which seeks to provide a convenient and unified digital ecosystem for citizens' everyday financial and travel requirements.
