A trial run of the Vande Bharat train was conducted between Chennai and Coimbatore on Thursday (30 March).
The train completed the journey in just 5 hours and 38 minutes, ahead of the expected time of six hours.
The trial run of the Vande Bharat Express was conducted as the train service is likely to be flagged off by PM Modi on 8 April.
The train departed from Chennai at 5:40 am and arrived at 11:18 am, around 22 minutes ahead of the scheduled time of 11:40 am. It departed for Chennai again at 12:24pm.
Salem Divisional Railway manager Pankaj Kumar Sinha and other railway officials travelled on the train.
In a statement to journalists, Sinha confirmed that the test run was a success, with the train arriving at its destination ahead of schedule at 11:18 am.
The train consisted of eight coaches, one of which was an executive coach.
There were a total of 536 seats in the eight coaches.
The timings of the train would be finalized soon and communicated to all, he said, reports Economic Times.
