The government on Tuesday (10 August) told the Lok Sabha that as many as 12 States and Union Territories (UTs) have implemented the 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) so far, reports Economic Times.
The states and UTs which have implemented the EWS reservation include Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The government's reply to the Lok Sabha also stated that no information regarding the implementation of the EWS reservation in the remaining States and UTs is available.
The written reply by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik also stated that the 14,366 out of 28,345 vacancies reserved for the SC community remain unfilled while 12,612 of 22016 vacancies for the ST community also remains unfilled. In addition to this, about 15,088 of the 28562 vacancies for the OBC community also remain unfilled.
Her reply elaborated that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) monitors the progress in filling up backlog vacancies reserved for SCs, STs and OBCs with 10 ministries or departments having more than 90 per cent of employees of the central government.
