As Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will land in Ayodhya today (5 August) to attend the historic Bhoomi Pujan ceremony to begin the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram, he will be provided security cover by a special ring of 150 police personnel who have recovered from the COVID-19 disease, reports Hindustan Times.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dy IGP) Deepak Kumar said that it was in the protocol that PM must be guarded by health personnel. He added, "Now what can be healthier in these times than a COVID-19 warrior?"

Authorities have expressed confidence that the 150 policemen who have already recovered from the disease and have developed antibodies against the virus, are unlikely to contract the disease or spread it, at least for the next few months.

These personnel will form the first layer of Prime Minister's security detail during his nearly three-hours-long stay in Ayodhya.

Apart from them, the larger security detail of PM Modi will include 400 additional personnel who have tested negative for the infectious disease over the past 48 hours and have been in isolation since.
