The ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan was watched by 15.6 million on Star India’s VoD platform Hotstar, making it the highest ever concurrency for a one day international (ODI) match. The record-breaking number marks a 1.7x increase in average concurrency compared to any other Indian cricket team’s match.
The video on demand (VoD) platform hit a daily active number of 100 million during the game between the arch rivals on 16 June, the Television Post reports. This was Hotstar’s highest-ever single day reach.
Star Sports, the sport broadcasting arm of Star India, is the official broadcasting partner of the ICC CWC 2019. Taking advantage of the cricketing fever in India, Hotstar is streaming the world cup matches across six languages- English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
Other campaign which the VoD platform is riding on is the #KoiYaarNahiFar with the Watch ‘N Play feature, which enables friends streaming the match together, regardless their location.
“Having achieved a single day platform reach of 100 million demonstrates the indisputable technology prowess that Hotstar brings to the OTT industry. This remarkable achievement has helped us set a new viewership benchmark,” Hotstar chief product officer Varun Narang said.
