33 Booked In UP’s Muzaffarnagar For Provoking Children To Pelt Stones On Police During Anti-CAA Protests

In Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Muzaffarnagar district, 33 jailed individuals have been booked for allegedly inciting and provoking children to pelt stones on the police forces during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reports the Times of India.

All the 33 culprits were earlier charged under various sections of IPC and sent to jail. They are now booked by the Special Investigation team appointed by the State Government under certain sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care And Protection of Children) Act of 2015.

Notably, during the protests which turned violent, several minors were seen to be pelting stones on the law upkeeping authorities and also vandalising properties.

The Juvenile Justice (Care And Protection of Children) Act, 2015 was invoked in these cases after due permission from the chief judicial magistrate Ravikant Yadav's court.

This gains importance as presently there exist no such provisions in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) under which people can be booked for such offences, but are provided under Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. These include use of children by militant groups, sale and procurement of children for any purpose including illegal adoption and offences against disabled children.
