As many as 500 Pakistani nationals, including officials from Pakistan’s infamous Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), were killed in a strike conducted by the United States in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, OneIndia News has reported. The US military had dropped its most powerful non-nuclear bomb to target the Islamic State (IS) tunnels.
According to the website’s report, the area that the US Air Force targeted was housing IS fighters and their assets, and was under the protection of the ISI and Pakistan Army. Attributing the information to sources from Indian agencies, the report claims that the ISI and Pakistan Army were actively involved in protecting and organising IS fighters.
Pakistan’s support for the growth of IS in Afghanistan is an open secret. Islamabad, which seeks to create a client state in Afghanistan where India has limited influence, wishes to use the IS to take the heat off its proxy and deflect the attention of the world powers from the main foe – Taliban.
