Jammu and Kashmir Police at a press conference on Saturday (21 September) addressed by Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh revealed that as many as 60 foreign terrorists had infiltrated into India from across the Line of Control (LoC), reports The Hindu.

One of the police officials present said that the figure had been ascertained by the assessments from multiple security and intelligence agencies, including the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF). He also shared that there had been incidents in Srinagar of jihadists resorting to firing in the air in a bid to threaten locals and deter them from coming out.

Moreover, it has also been revealed that the infiltrators were contacting their handlers in Pakistan by passing information through their conduits who would travel to Punjab to leverage the mobile communication services, given the same remain restricted in the Kashmir Valley.

"We have intercepted a few calls that were made from Punjab to handlers in Pakistan and the security remains heightened in the wake of this. Pakistan is trying to push as many terrorists as possible,” said an official.

He also said that the militants were on to carry out spectacular strikes before 27 September when Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is set to address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
