Free Battery Operated Bus Service Launched At AIIMS, To Benefit 5000 Patients And Support Staff Per Day

The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda flagged off battery operated buses services at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on Thursday (14 September).

A fleet of 10 battery operated buses have been donated by the Independent News Services Pvt. Ltd. (India TV) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The buses will be maintained by the company and they would also bear the salaries of drivers and other support staff for a two year period. The option for renewal also exists and it is expected that the buses would be used for transporting patients, attendants serving patients and other support staff within the AIIMS campus. An estimated 5000 passengers per day are expected to patronise the new battery operated buses.

The Union Minister while flagging off the bus services also spoke glowingly of the role played by AIIMS in providing quality healthcare in the country. The Minister also expounded on the virtues of the Ayushman Bharat scheme formulated by the Union Government which is expected to lead to a qualitative and quantitative increase in access to healthcare for Indian citizens.
