Adventure At 11,000 Feet: Uttarakhand Opens 150-Year-Old, Over 130 Metre Long Wooden Bridge For Tourists After Renovation

The Uttarakhand government has opened the Gartang Gali, a 150-year-old old wooden bridge located at an altitude of 11,000 feet, in Nelong valley in Uttarkashi district for tourists after renovation.

Gartang Gali bridge, on an ancient trade route to Tibet, is believed to have been built by Peshawar Pathans. It was damaged over the years after it fell into disuse following the Indo-China war in 1962 when it was declared off-limits, reports Hindustan Times.

According to the report, the 136 m long and 1.8 m wide bridge is located inside the Gangotri National Park and is at a distance of 90 km from Uttarkashi district headquarters.

The tourists interested in visiting Gartang Gali bridge will have to register themselves at Bhairav Ghati outpost and follow all the Covid guidelines.

To ensure security, the district administration will allow only ten visitors at a time on the bridge and they will have to maintain a distance of one metre from each other.

The opening of the Gartang gali is expected to attract tourists from across the country.
