Protests broke out yesterday (2 February) close to the Shaheen Bagh protest site, with hundreds of residents from Shaheen Bagh and nearby regions demanding the opening up of the road connecting the bustling IT hub of Noida to Kalindi Kunj, and removal of barricades from the roads which have been in place for over 50 days, reports The Hindu.
Protestors cited the prolonged hassles and troubles being borne by them while commuting to work. They also shared how the education of the children from the region had taken a major hit as the students were not able to attend schools owing to the blocking of roads by protesters at Shaheen Bagh.
With the protesters against the blockage at Shaheen Bagh gathering in massive numbers, the Delhi Police immediately jumped into action to contain the situation and rushed senior officials to the scene so as to ensure that no untoward action took place.
They talked to the protesters and asked them to maintain peace. The Delhi Police detained at least 52 people, who were all released hours later.
Demonstrators against the Shaheen Bagh protests also shared how they are made to show identity cards and subjected to strict checking to pass through the region given the protests as Shaheen Bagh.
