The Rahul Gandhi led Congress party has decided against hosting an Iftar party on a central level and its state units are hosting the same on their own accord, DNA has reported.

This was confirmed by the Congress's minority cell chairman Nadeem Javed. The reason for the same has bee touted as the party’s heavy defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. Last year the party president Rahul Gandhi had thrown a plush Iftar party at a Delhi hotel.

Incidentally, after being repeatedly accused of minority appeasement, the Congress party recently began a soft Hindutva push which included Rahul Gandhi declaring himself as a Janeudhari Hindu and embarking on various temple runs ever since the 2017 Gujarat elections.

The party fared poorly in the Lok Sabha 2019 polls by managing to win 52 seats to fininsh a distant second to the BJP which won a record 303 seats.
