In a worrying development, the State of Telangana on Tuesday (25 August) reported that it has registered at least two cases of COVID-10 reinfections, reports Economic Times.

The case of reinfections raises the alarm that those who have already recovered from COVID-19 disease may not be immune from future re-contraction of the virus.

Speaking about the same, Telangana's Health Minister Etela Rajender said that there is no guarantee that one will not get re-infected after recovering once, as those patients who would not have developed adequate antibodies could face the risk of getting affected again.

The development from Telangana comes just a day after Hong Kong had reported the first confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection.

The emergence of the possibility that patients who have already recovered could again contract the virus may also have ramifications for the development of a potent vaccine, raising concerns about the amount of time till which the vaccine would prove effective in keeping a person safe from COVID-19 disease.
