Amidst news of severe police clampdown in Kerala on peaceful protests by Sabarimala devotees, here comes another shocker: An Islamist outfit, Popular Front of India, is now reportedly beginning to flex its muscles against devotees who are on their way to the hill shrine.
Reports suggest that activists of the Popular Front of India attacked Sabarimala devotees in Malappuram district during a ‘namajapa’ procession.
Janam TV reported that devotees who staged ‘namajapa’ protests against the undue arrest of Sangh leader and Hindu Aika Vedi president, KP Sasikala, who was on her way to offer prayers at Sabarimala with her ‘irumudikettu’ (offering to Lord Ayyappa), were attacked by PFI activists.
The police took Sasikala, who is believed to be over 50, into preventive custody around 2 am for not following prohibitory orders. The police halted the Hindu Aikya Vedi state president at the hilltop, where she had come for darshan.
She was let off on bail on Sunday (17 November). In the alleged attack by PFI, two devotees are reported to have been injured. The devotees were again allegedly attacked for protesting against the attack.
