India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had to personally intervene after the Markaz Nizamuddin head Maulana Saad refused to vacate the Banglewali Masjid despite repeated requests by the Delhi Police and other security agencies.
As per a report by Hindustan Times Home Minister Amit Shah requested Doval to intervene and the former reached the mosque at 2 AM on the intervening night of 28-29 March.
He then convinced the Maulana to get the Masjid occupants tested for Covid-19 and make them enter quarantine. The report adds that following Doval’s visit the Markaz authorities agreed to clean up the mosque.
Currently Indian authorities are tracing all foreigners who were part of the Tablighi Jamaat event, who are still in the country. Their number is believed to be around 916.
By attending the religious congregation the foreigners have violated visa rules which prohibits missionary activities. They are lively to be blacklisted from entering the country again.
The Tablighi Jamaat event held in mid March has emerged as one of the largest Covid-19 infection vector in the country.
