Following announcement by Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath that his Government would come up with a law against Love Jihad, Haryana's CM Manohar Lal Khattar has also joined the movement, reports Indian Express.
CM Khattar said yesterday (1 November) that his Government is also contemplating "legal provisions" against Love Jihad.
Citing the recent broad day-light murder of a 21-years-old student Nikita Tomar in Faridabad by a Muslim youth identified as Tauseef, CM Khattar justified the need for legal provisions to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
State's Minister for Home Affairs Anil Vij also shared that the State was deliberating on a law to curb Love Jihad. He emphasised that in Tomar's murder case too, her family has emphasised that their daughter was being forced to switch her religion to Islam.
Vij said, "The state government is considering bringing legislation to deal with cases pertaining to love jihad. Attempts are being made by unscrupulous elements to force people to convert their religion through love jihad."
